Children who are raised in dysfunctional homes have to find ways to survive, so they learn quickly that they can feel better by imagining or pretending. For instance, if my parents are emotionally unavailable, I will feel pain. But if I make up the story that it’s my fault (a fantasy), I deny the pain and feel anger at myself instead, which gives me some relief. Plus I feel more in control of it and I can create the fantasy that I can change and then I’ll get the love I need. But the reality is that I have no control over my parent’s unavailability, so my false control is a fantasy. Over time this becomes a powerful coping strategy that ultimately inhibits the child’s perceptions of reality, damages their emotional development and blocks the building of healthy responses to their wants and needs.
Most fantasy and obsession roots go back to thinking patterns built in childhood, further limiting it to black and white thinking, all or nothing thinking and confirmation bias thinking. And unfortunately, the nature of something that we’ve experienced all our lives renders it invisible to our own awareness, since it’s the brain we’ve always known, functioning in the way we’ve always known. We just can’t see it.
Without a healthy emotional compass, all our hard work ends up in a ‘bottom’ of chaos, disappointment or failure and we can’t see that the fantasy was the problem. Instead, we still think that we need to come up with the perfect plan, try harder or be smarter to make our lives better. Unfortunately, we medicate the pain of the ‘bottom’ with bigger, more elaborate fantasy thinking and we’re off and running again.

What if your brain is trained that happiness is a fantasy, and perhaps even promising sustainable happiness is hard to fathom. Thinking about the next thing for most is often an automatic condition resulting in chronic self abandonment, huge internal pain and over time, it feels like metaphorically living on a hamster wheel. We also call this fantasy chasing, or filling the internal void with external things, whether it’s a career, relationship, a conflict or an obsessive addiction you just can’t shake.
This program is one that can help relieve the root of addiction. In this program you’ll gain an understanding that allows you to recognize addictive thinking when it's occurring, providing both support and a proven framework to process and heal it. Heidi Anderson introduces applications to bring the unwanted, unconscious thoughts and behaviors into awareness, so instead of having a spinning mind that runs you, you can learn how to focus on what you're feeling in order to become present and heal.
This form of healing creates lasting effects. This is for those who are ready for sustainable healing, and willing to feel to heal, rather than numb with addictions. This is for those who struggle with motivation because they’ve reached the realization that fantasy and external striving to fill the void is no longer working.
